Inspection and Repair Industry: Registered Emissions Repair Technician Training

Prospective Registered Repair Technician Training Requirements
Prospective Registered Emissions Repair Technicians are required to review the new online Mass Module and pass the test. Additionally, they are required to take a 28-hour OBD repair course offered by the Massachusetts Vehicle Check Program as a prerequisite to becoming registered.

Current Registered Emission Repair Technician Training Requirements
Current Registered Emissions Repair Technicians are required to review the new online Mass Module and pass the test. They are permitted, but not required, to take the new 28-hour OBD repair course offered by the Massachusetts Vehicle Check Program.

Registered Emission Repair Technician Ongoing Training Requirements
Once you have become a Registered Emissions Repair Technician, you will need to enroll in and attend one three- to four-hour Program-related training seminar annually.
